Blackberry maker RIM renames itself as Blackberry ($BBRY)

Quiz Time!

Question: What is the name of the company that makes Blackberry Smartphones?

Answer: Canada based Research In Motion(RIM).

Nope! It’s wrong. It’s Blackberry! What? Yes! RIM has renamed itself as “Blackberry“.

Officially announcing the name change, RIM Blackberry CEO Thorsten Heins said, “We have reinvented the company, and we want to represent this in our brand.” The company Blackberry’s new Tagline “One brand One promise” clearly states RIM didn’t have any plan to launch any other product other than Blackberry and this change ensures that it wont happen in future too.

Soon Investors can see the company trading with the new code BBRY instead of the old one RIMM.

Explaining the reason for this corporate name change, Heins said,

“Our customers use BlackBerry. Our employees work for BlackBerry, and our shareholders are owners of BlackBerry. From today on, we are BlackBerry everywhere in the world.”

Having said this, Let’s hope Apple won’t come up with a lawsuit against RIM Blackberry for (re)naming the company after a fruit mimicking them :P Cheers!

iPad Retina

Apple doesn’t want to disappoint their tablet lovers with lack of storage space. Apple, the maker of world’s top selling Tablet, iPad, decided to launch a new model (nope! the same model) with more storage capacity. This might be the next big thing here, Yes iPad 128GB!

The fourth generation iPad 128GB is almost double the size of its predecessor 64GB but its not double the price, its $100 more than the 64GB 4th Generation iPad. The Price of the only wifi version of the 4th Generation iPad 128GB is $799 while the Cellular version (LTE + Wifi) is $929.

iPad Retina

According to Apple’s Press Release,

Apple® today announced a 128GB* version of the fourth generation iPad® with Retina® display. The 128GB iPad with Wi-Fi and iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular models provide twice the storage capacity of the 64GB models to hold even more valuable content including photos, documents, projects, presentations, books, movies, TV shows, music and apps.

Apple explaining the range of customers who might need the new 128GB iPad with Retina Display states,

“Our AutoCAD WS app for iOS was designed to give customers seamless access to their designs anywhere, anytime,” said Amy Bunszel, vice president of AutoCAD products for Autodesk. “These files are often large and highly detailed so having the thin and light iPad with its Multitouch display, integrated camera and all-day battery life, is a real advantage for iPad users to view, edit and share their AutoCAD data.”

The new 128GB version of the fourth generation iPad will be available for purchase from February 5 (Tuesday) through Apple Online/Retail stores and as usual there is a White version, and yes! it does come in black ;)

Are you ready to spend 100 bucks more to enjoy a double-size storage?

HTC Butterfly in India

Indian market which is growing with new 5-inch Smartphones a.k.a Phablets is not spared by HTC too. HTC has landed in Indian Phablet market with HTC Butterfly with a costly price tag.

HTC Butterfly in India

HTC Butterfly, the world’s first Full-HD (1080p) Smartphone features a  5-inch Super LCD 3 full-HD capacitive touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protected display (1080 x 1920 pixels resolution). The 441 ppi pixel density of HTC Butterfly is really amazing while Apple’s iPhone 5 has only 326 ppi pixel density its rival Samsung’s Galaxy SIII and Galaxy Note II got 306 ppi and 267 ppi respectively.

The 5-inch giant runs on latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS ( optimized with HTC Sense 4+) powered by 1.5 Ghz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Pro processor. While the 2GB RAM is good enough to support seamless multi-tasking, it has an internal memory storage of 16GB and surprisingly extendable upto 32GB with SD Card and as usual 25GB free Dropbox cloud storage from HTC.

Thanks to the 8MP (f2.0) autofocus camera with LED Flash and BSI Sensor support for recording full HD (1080p) videos at 30 fps and a whooping 2.1 MP front camera ensures Full HD video calling and excellent self portrait images.

Measuring 143mm x 70.5mm x 9.08 mm, HTC Butterfly weighs 140 gm and supports Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi (with Wi-Fi Direct), 3G. With NFC Technology, HTC Butterfly comes with  2,020 mAh battery (Yes, Its non-removable).

While the price of HTC Butterfly in India, Rs 45,990 looks slightly higher, the device is really a good return on Investment.
